Overview
The Global Defense Initiative was founded on December 5th, 2018 by Nreic, leader of Palaesia. The initial goal was to create a haven for new players to thrive and enjoy playing the game. In the beginning, it succeded. As time went on, conflict and rogue members caused the alliance to collapse. The collapse occurred between 04/01/2019 to 04/06/19.
Timeline
In the beginning, the alliance consisted of Nreic and Meade. They began recruiting any new players they saw in the game, inflating their numbers. Within the first month, the alliance had already gathered over 20 players, larger than the biggest alliance in the game, though, much weaker. Notable members from that period are Nreic, Meade, SeanPRC, and Drusketh.

War of the Roses
(Note: This is all based from my memories of the war. Section expanded by Saarland.)
After international disputes of the fate of Tuscon, TCE initiated an offensive to the UPP, and thus involving all Rose Alliance members. Then, since Tuscon de facto was in GDI, the later was dragged into the conflict which got heavy blows to the internal structure of the GDI, thus collapsing.
Then, on the 1st of April, the treaty of Vulcana was signed[1]
3 days later, GDI collapsed and left nations unproteced.
